The Sprint Galaxy S3 from the year 2012 has no chance of getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update officially from Sprint or Samsung, but that doesn’t you won’t be able to run the freshest release of Android on your Galaxy S3.
Developer Lrs121 over at xda has just posted a working build of CM13 for the Sprint Galaxy S3 L710 (D2SPR). CM13 is an AOSP based Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM that you can install on supported devices to get the Marshmallow update unofficially.
We don’t know about the issues/bugs with this Sprint S3 CM13 build yet, but since it’s the first build of CM13 for the device, we wouldn’t recommend you to install it as your daily driver yet. The ROM is sure to have bugs (maybe some serious ones as well), so you might want to wait until someone posts a detailed list of issues with the ROM.
If you’d like to test the Sprint S3 CM13 ROM, get it from the download link below and simply flash it via a custom recovery along with Marshmallow compatible Gapps package.
Note: Make you’re running L710VPBLJ7 (or greater) firmware build on your Sprint Galaxy S3 before installing this CM13 ROM. It may not work otherwise.
