The LG G4 has finally gotten the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in the USA, starting with the Sprint variant of the device with firmware build number LS991ZV9.
However, for the folks among us who like to keep root access on their devices — Marshmallow might not be a good news. Chainfire’s systemless root for Marshmallow is based on bootloader unlocked devices, but the Sprint G4′ bootloader isn’t unlockable and hence just flashing the latest SuperSU (with systemless root) via recovery won’t do for Sprint G4.
To get root on Sprint G4 running Marshmallow, the previously known working root method should still work pretty fine. But it’s something you might not be able to do on your own.
To get root on Sprint G4, you need to flash a modified system image, which, unfortunately, isn’t available for the Marshmallow build yet.
We hope the holy folks over at xda would soon bring Marshmallow root for the Sprint G4. We’ll be sure to update this post once a modified system image or any other working root method is available. Stay tuned..
