What to know
- Spotify has increased prices for its Premium and Family plans in the US and multiple other countries.
- The new rates are effective immediately for new subscribers, while existing users will see changes in September.
- Premium Individual now costs $12.99 per month, up from $11.99. Family plans rise to $19.99 per month.
- Spotify cites rising costs and investment in new features as reasons for the hike.
Spotify is raising its subscription prices again, marking the second increase in just over a year. The company announced on August 4, 2025, that both its Premium Individual and Family plans will see higher monthly fees in the United States and several other markets.
If you’re a new subscriber in the US, you’ll now pay $12.99 per month for the Premium Individual plan, up from the previous $11.99. The Family plan jumps to $19.99 per month, a $2 increase from its former $17.99 price. Existing subscribers will see these new rates reflected in their September billing cycle. Spotify is notifying current users via email and in-app messages about the upcoming changes.
Spotify says the price hike is necessary to keep up with rising operating costs and to continue investing in new features and content. The company points to recent additions like AI-powered playlist creation and improved podcast discovery tools as examples of ongoing innovation that require additional funding.
This increase follows a similar move in July 2024, when Spotify raised prices for the first time in over a decade. Since then, the company has faced growing competition from Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music, all of which have also raised their prices in the past year.
Spotify’s Student and Duo plans are also affected, with the Student plan now costing $6.99 per month (up from $5.99) and the Duo plan rising to $16.99 per month (up from $14.99). The company has not announced any changes to its free, ad-supported tier.
For users outside the US, the price increases vary by country, but most major markets are seeing similar hikes. Spotify says it will continue to review its pricing structure regularly to reflect market conditions and its ongoing investments in the platform.
