The Xperia Z has proven to be a roaring success (at least when compared to older devices) for Sony, and the company might soon follow it up with the Xperia ZR, details of which have leaked courtesy of Xperia Blog.

The Xperia ZR is expected to have mostly the same specs as the Xperia Z, except the display which is now a more modest 4.6″ unit of HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution, meaning the 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and 2GB of RAM said to be powering the device should have less load to handle, which should result in better performance than the Xperia Z.

Other specs that the Xperia ZR sports should be a 13-megapixel Exmor RS camera sensor, 8GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot, and a 2,300 mAh battery. There’s no word on the version of Android it is running, but Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean would be the best bet, as not even the Xperia Z has received an Android 4.2 update yet.

The Xperia ZR will also be water-resistant with an IP55/IP58 rating, which is higher than the IP55/IP57 rating of the Xperia Z and should allow the ZR to be exposed to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes. The device’s construction should consist of a glass and metal frame, with a thickness of just above 10mm and around 140g in weight.

Stay tuned for more info on the Xperia ZR.
