We have already heard about some of the rumoured phones from Sony’s 2013 portfolio that are being worked upon. It turns out that the specs for one of these, codenamed ‘Dogo‘ have leaked out through sources unknown, and from what we see, assuming it is true, Sony seems to be having another beast in its pipeline.
Let’s move on to the meat of the matter now. Japanese tech blog – Blog Of Mobile reports that they have come across the leaked preliminary specs for an Xperia series Android-based smartphone, codenamed Dogo. The device has a 1280 x 720p HD LCD display, and is supposedly 4.65 inches in size. The display, like all Xperia phones, will be equipped with Sony’s proprietary Mobile Bravia engine. Now hold your breath – this phone is rumoured to be packing a 1.5 GHz quad-core APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 Pro processor – and from what we know, this is a monster – and it easily beats the likes of the Nvidia Tegra 3 found in the Nexus 7 and Transformer Prime, as well as the Exynos 4412 in the Samsung Galaxy S3, hands down, without any contest! To give you a better idea of how fast this chip is, Qualcomm’s mobile development platform for this chip scored a whopping 7700 on Quadrant benchmark tests, which is more than twice what the Tegra 3 powered Nexus 7 did!
The device is also said to be packing 1 GB RAM, which seems a bit strange, as Sony would ideally pack in at least double that if they are adding a powerful processor like the quad-cored S4 Pro. But considering the other two rumoured models, Yuga and Odin also pack the same APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 Pro chip but under a 1080p display, it can be assumed that the Dojo is likely to be a slightly scaled down version of Yuga and Odin, on account of its 720p display. Other than that, the device is dustproof & waterproof resistance certified, which is a spec usually found on phones meant for the Japanese market- so that could be another clue to where this beast of a phone is likely to launch first. Those are all the specs, albeit rumoured, that are available at this point.
Speculation still is, and this the second time we are coming across it, that the Dojo is likely to be unveiled at the CES 2013, which will be held at Las Vegas, Nevada between January 8th-11th 2013, and then released somewhere in Q1 of 2013.
Rumour or fact aside, Sony seems to have all its bases covered for the next year. With Google introducing changes in its Nexus certification program, we may very well see Sony rising to the occasion and creating some waves. What do you think?
