After Google started rolling out Android 9 Pie update to the Pixel phones, Sony came out with a list of Xperia devices that would see an update to Pie and when to expect. At the time, Sony expected to begin rolling out the stable Pie update in November, but as of this writing, the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact have already received the update.

Now, to make things clear, Sony has come out with a new release roadmap for its eligible devices, which is as follows.
Device | Android 9 Pie Release date |
Xperia XZ Premium | 26 October 2018 |
Xperia XZ1 | 26 October 2018 |
Xperia XZ1 Compact | 26 October 2018 |
Xperia XZ2 Premium | 7 November 2018 |
Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra & XA2 Plus | 4 March 2019 |
It’s a little strange that the update to Pie will arrive on the newer Xperia XZ2 Premium after it hits the older Xperia XZ Premium and the XZ1 duo. Still, it’s great that Sony is confident about releasing the updates before the year comes to an end.
As for the budget Xperia XA2 family, the update to Android Pie will arrive towards the end of Q1 2019, which wasn’t unexpected.
