Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 65X processor series has been quite a hit, as most of the devices in the lower-high end segment have either of the SD650, SD652 and SD653 beating inside — case in point, have a look at Samsung’s C series, apart from the offerings in that segment by Xiaomi, Gionee, Sony, etc.
Now, it’s about time it the SD65X series got a successor. We’re hearing that Qualcomm has one in mind, dubbed as Snapdragon 660 chipset, and that has been rumored today to be built on the 14nm FINFET manufacturing process from Samsung.
Based on previous rumors and leaks, we got to know that the processor may feature eight of Qualcomm’s indigenous Kryo cores and their own X10 LTE modem too. Four of those Kryo cores could be clocked at 2.2GHz and the other four at 1.9GHz, leading to the conclusion that the former four are intended for performance and the latter to maintain power efficiency.
Graphics on the Snapdragon 660 chipset may run on the Adreno 512 chipset. And like the upcoming flagship Snapdragon 835 processor, the support for storage has been extended to UFS v2.1.

This provides much better transfer speeds for the internal storage bundled into a smartphone. Getting into the technical details of UFS 2.1 is a bit too taxing, the bottom line is that UFS v2.1 is considerably faster than what eMMC provides and faster than the current version of UFS.
