We already know that Sharp was reading the 1080p display equipped Aquos SH930W for a November 8th Russia launch. While there is no news yet on how the device is being received in Russia, word is that Sharp is also going to make it available in Hong Kong starting December.

To prepare for the launch, Sharp Hong Kong has readied some promo material which shows images of the Aquos SH930W alongside other top Android handsets including the Galaxy S3, the Galaxy Note 2 and the HTC One X+.

While we all accept the fact that this is a pretty good looking handset, it is funny that Sharp Hong Kong has conveniently left out the Droid DNA, or the HTC J Butterfly since it’s closer to home, or the Oppo Find 5 from the Chinese mainland for that matter. Considering the Full HD 1080p display is the main USP for this device, all the other devices lined up in the promo flyer pack a resolution of 1280 x 720 or lower. Not sure what they were thinking.

On the pricing front, the Russian pricing is said to be tagged at 21,990 RUB ($712) which seems a bit steep. However pricing for the Hong Kong market is expected to be considerably lower at 4,488 HKD which works out to about $580. Quite a variance that. For those who missed the specs, the Sharp Aquos SH930W comes with a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor (again, not sure why Sharp didn’t pack quad-core muscle in here), 2 GB RAM, an 8 MP rear camera, 2  MP front camera, 32GB of internal memory (unlike the 16GB on the Droid DNA) and Jelly Bean on board.

Not the best of hardware as compared to other 1080p display devices that have been outed of late. At this point, there is no information on whether Sharp intends to make this device available in other markets, and if it does, it’s going to have to do a lot better on their promotional strategy than they have done for Hong Kong, if they want this device to be a success.
