It looks like we’re gonna have no shortage of full HD smartphones this year. After the HTC J Butterfly and recently announced Huawei Ascend D2, another manufacturer has unveiled their 5-inch 1080p smartphone in the market. Dubbed as Aquos, the Sharp SH930W uses a Sharp IGZO display, which offers improved image quality over regular LCDs along with better power efficiency, with a pixel density of 440ppi.

Other specs of the phone include a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm 8260A chipset, coupled with an Adreno 225 for graphics processing, which compared to the display, are not very good. According to GL Benchmark, the phone scores pretty bad and thus will not be able to run heavy 3d games at its native resolution.

In addition, the device runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and has support for 3g, but not LTE networks. The phone also offers a microSD slot for storage expansion for people who find internal storage not enough.

The device is all set to launch in the Russian market on November 8, also marking Sharp’s entry in the Russian smartphone market. As a result, this device from Sharp has a chance of higher availability and visibility in the global scene, unlike the manufacturers earlier models. Although this is a great offering from Sharp, it does lag behind compared to recent additions to the market, and Sharp is going to need some serious marketing to get this device to be a success.
