What to know

  • Samsung plans to launch Galaxy S25 Slim in April 2025 as a direct competitor to Apple’s iPhone 17 Air.
  • The S25 Slim will be released as a fourth model in the S25 series, alongside the standard, Plus, and Ultra variants.
  • Samsung will initially produce limited units of the S25 Slim to gauge market response, which could influence the design of the future Galaxy S26 series.

Samsung is gearing up to challenge Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air with its ultra-slim contender, the Galaxy S25 Slim. According to Smartprix, Samsung has already begun testing this sleek new addition to its flagship lineup, as evidenced by the appearance of model number SM-S937U in the GSMA IMEI database.

The timing of this release is particularly strategic. Samsung plans to launch the S25 Slim in April 2025, several months ahead of Apple’s iPhone 17 Air debut. This move gives Samsung the first-mover advantage in the ultra-slim premium smartphone segment.

Samsung’s S25 Slim will be the company’s fourth flagship model, complementing the existing standard, Plus, and Ultra variants. The device is expected to maintain flagship-level specifications while offering a significantly thinner profile than its predecessors.

The stakes are high for both companies in this slim smartphone showdown. While the 6.7-inch Apple iPhone 17 Air is rumored to feature a 6.6-inch ProMotion LTPO OLED display and powerful A19 chip, instead of the A19 Pro chipset, Samsung keeps its cards close to its chest by using the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset that will also feature in the other phones in the S25 line. However, industry insiders suggest it will pack enough punch to compete head-to-head with Apple’s offering.

For Samsung, the S25 Slim represents more than just a new product launch, it’s a litmus test for future design directions. The company plans to use consumer response to this ultra-slim model to inform design decisions for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, potentially marking the beginning of a new era in smartphone design aesthetics.
