Samsung releases December security fix for Galaxy On8 2018 and J5 2017

Samsung isn’t getting any better with major Android OS upgrades, but it looks like lately the company has been on steroids with respect to monthly security patches.

It’s only earlier this week that Google published the December 2018 security bulletin and today, two Samsung devices are already on the receiving end of this update. Those using the Galaxy On8, which is also known as Galaxy J8 outside India, alongside owners of the Galaxy J5 2017 are the subjects here.

The On8 update has software versions J810GFODI2ARK4 and J810GDDU2ARK4 for the single and dual-SIM variants while the J5 2017 is receiving software version J530FXXU3BRK1. These updates are airborne, meaning they will take a few days before arriving on the said devices.

You can wait for the OTA notification or try rushing the update via the settings menu, but be sure to get a stable Wi-Fi connection before proceeding with the upgrade process.
