Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Nougat update: Verizon begins roll out of April security patch

Update [April 22, 2017]: Verizon is starting to seed the April security patch to the Tab S2. The update is identified as build number T818VVRS1AQC1, and includes other minor performance and stability adjustments. This update also resolves a few pending issues present on the previous build.

Update [April 18, 2017]: Samsung is now starting to roll out Android 7.0 Nougat in the US. The update arrives as builds T810XXU2DQCL and T710XXU2DQCL, which are for the 9.7-inch (SM-T810) and 8-inch (SM-T710) variants of the Galaxy Tab S2 respectively. The update is rolling out over the air and is sized at 852MB, so it is advisable to download it over WiFi to save on data charges.

Update [April 08, 2017]: After a long wait, the Galaxy Tab S2 (SM-T715 and SM-T810) is finally receiving Nougat. Samsung is rolling out the update over the air and it’s sized at 954.93MB.  The latest iteration of the OS arrives as build T715XXU2CQCL and shows off a new and improved UX, revamped quick settings, improved doze mode and multi window support and an overall boost in system performance. Download the update over WiFi so as not to incur additional data charges.

As for the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, the device is currently receiving the April security patch. The update is being rolled out over the air and is identified as build T810XXU2DQCL. If you haven’t already received the update notification, head over to Settings » About » System update and check manually.

Update [January 27, 2017]: Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablets — regular and 2015 editions — are receiving a new OTA update today to software version MMB29K.T817VVRS2BPL1 and MMB29M.T818VVRU1AQA3 respectively. The update brings the latest security patch as per Verizon, which we think has to be January patch, as we’ve seen Samsung release that to no. of Galaxy devices this month, as expected.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Nougat Release Date

Given the device was launched in the year 2015 with Android 5.0 Lollipop, Samsung has decided to update the Tab S2 and its different variants to Nougat.

We got to confirm this after Samsung released it’s Nougat roadmap for Turkey a while back. Originally the update was scheduled to hit the devices towards the end of May this year. Thanks to a stroke of luck, the Tab S2’s update to Nougat got pre-poned by a week’s time.

The Galaxy Tab S2 Nougat update will be coming to even the AT&T and Verizon variants of the tablet in US. These carriers are known to be lazy about pushing out software updates, and the Tab S2 being a 2-year old device, it is indeed surprising to see Nougat update coming in.
