The year 2015 looks to be the year of 64-bit processors. Almost all Android devices announced until now and at CES 2015 features a 64-bit processor, be it from Qualcomm, Mediatek or Intel. The Android 5.0 lollipop update has a huge role to play in this as Android now takes advantage of 64-bit chipsets to improve performance.

Samsung too is getting it all on 64-bit processors this year, and is even upgrading some of its already released devices with a 64-bit chipset. The Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 which released in June in 2014 has just been spotted on popular benchmark database, Geekbench, with an upgraded 64-bit chipset and a slightly different model no., SM-T333.

The 64-bit processor found on Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 SM-T333 is the same processor which is being used in Samsung’s Galaxy A and E series of devices. It’s Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core Cortex A53 CPU coupled with Adreno 306 GPU.

Other specs of the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 tablet remains the same though, meaning Samsung has only upgraded the processor to 64-bit to better support the future versions of Android. Currently, the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat and is expected to get the Android 5.0 lollipop update in February or March.
