Samsung Galaxy S8 Active (SM-G892A) with codename Cruiser coming soon to AT&T

Samsung’s initial success with its flagship Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones has proved its critics wrong and it has also undone the image damage caused by Note 7 fiasco. But Samsung refuses to rest on these laurels. Rather it is going pretty strong and will soon come up with a new surprise in the form of another variant of Galaxy S8. Yes, works on Galaxy S8 Active has already begun and Samsung plans to release it by June.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active carries the model number SM-G892A and has aptly been codenamed Cruiser, cites Sammobile. If this report stands to be true, it means that Samsung has decided to continue its Active line of smartphones this year as well. It has been a norm with the Korean giant to release an Active variant of Galaxy S flagship phones with larger batteries. These are released mainly in overseas market.

It may be a little tough to imagine what more could be added to the already perfect Galaxy S8. But what we can be sure of is MIL-STD-810G standard compliance, of course in addition to the IP68 certification. Another feature in Active variants is the Active key, which if Samsung will stick to in S8 Active will become the second key after Bixby button.

Lastly, as is the usual case with Active phones, the Galaxy S8 Active is likely to be AT&T exclusive. But we would definitely like to see Samsung break the rule this time and broaden its availability, given that expectations with anything associated with Galaxy S8 are already running sky high.

  1. Active variants of S-series of galaxy r not very popular, but they sure provide flagship grade features in more tougher and beautiful body!!

  2. The S8 stands out due to its gorgeous design and construction. Making it an “active” makes it rugged and robust, yes. But takes most of the beauty away. Hopefully, some day we get a point where phones can preserve the looks of the S8 and durability of the active.

    1. Agree. One of the reasons S8 stands out much more than the other phone is because of its sleek and futuristic design. Not sure where they are going with ‘active’ version of the phone but hopefully they keep the beauty of its original form.

    2. Yes. Technological advancements will hopefully reach a stage where s8 by default can have all of the active’s features without compromising the beautiful design. 🙂

  5. I wonder how their going to make an active version out of such an elegant device, however they do it I’m sure it will be great.

    1. Considering the previous versions, they do it by changing the design language and a lot of features too. It’ll look a lot different from s8 but will end up being tougher and robust. Try look up the previous active versions. You’ll get a clearer idea. 🙂

  7. Brave move from samsung .What does the active key do ? be better if they replace the bixby with it instead of adding another button or giving the user an option to choose between the two by providing an option in the settings
