According to reports coming from South Korea, Samsung is lining up great things to celebrate the Galaxy brand’s 10th anniversary in business. As you may already know, Samsung Galaxy S10 will be at the forefront of the party and while there are reports it could see an early launch in order to pave way for the launch of the foldable Galaxy X at the MWC 2018, we are getting even more interesting stuff from Korea.
As per The Bell, a well-known Korean publication, Samsung Galaxy S10 will have several firsts. High on the list is the introduction of a 3D sensor in place of the iris scanner, which has been around since the days of the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7. Apparently, Samsung has yet to make any orders for the iris scanning technology from its partner companies, something that must have already happened by this time of the year.
We know this type of sensor from Apple’s iPhone X and with it, Samsung hopes to take its facial authentication feature to the next level, especially in matters of security.
Unlike the iPhone X, Samsung will still give you an option to use the fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S10, but this time, it won’t be on the back, rather, you’ll find it under the display screen, just like we’ve already seen on several Vivo smartphones and recently, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition.
The Bell further notes that the Galaxy S10 will stick to the same display screen as the current Galaxy S9, but the size of the S9 Plus’ successor will grow by 0.1 inches, giving the S10 Plus a massive 6.3 inches of display real estate, same as the current Galaxy Note 8.
It’s worth noting that we are talking about a device that will launch in Q1 2019, meaning that there’s still room for changes. Whether the latest developments will be part of the end product is still unclear, so take this report with a grain of salt, as is always the case with every other rumor.
