Root Android M on Nexus 5, 6, 9 and Player

Update 2: Good news, folks!! Root is now available. No joke! For the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6, Android M root is now available. See the links below.

We’ll add root for Nexus 9 and Nexus Player — the other two devices to have precious Android M preview build from Google — as and when it becomes available. Keep watching this space.

Update 1: Looks like SuperSU needs to be updated to support Android M. Do NOT flash it yet or you’ll end in a bootloop.

Update about SuperSU Android M compatible package:

Little update, dearie! It’s well know now that current SuperSU package, whether it’s stable v2.46 or beta v2.49, both aren’t working as root solution out of the box. So, we have to wait for an update to SuperSU package which is compatible with Android M.

Now, SuperSU’s developer Chainfire has already let it be known that he is working on Android M, knowing that we think a new SuperSU isn’t far, which will let Android M build on any device get root access in just one flash from recovery.

Original article below that uses SuperSU root package to root Android M.

Looking to acquire root access back on your Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 or Nexus Player? Well, the good old SuperSU flash is your best bet. So, yeah, nothing’s new with the process: just go on and grab a custom recovery like TWRP, CWM or Philz for your Nexus device, and flash the latest SuperSU file form the recovery.

You probably don’t need help with recovery installation SuperSU flashing process, as if you are running Android M, you’re an Android pro who is easily past the basic stuff like installing custom recovery and using Chainfire’s SuperSU file to root a device.

But anyway, we’ve got some links of ours that can help, so here you go.

For more help, use the nexus multitool to install a custom recovery and do other stuff.

How to Root Android M

Well, very easy!

Step 1: Download the SupeSU file (link removed for the time being till Android M compatible SuperSU is out. Check the links at top for working root solution already available Nexus 5 and Nexus 6).

Step 2: Transfer the SuperSU file to your phone. Remember the location of it on phone.

Step 3: Install TWRP recovery from the links given above. Then reboot into recovery mode. For this, power off your device first. Then hold Volume down and Power button together to reboot to fastboot mode. Navigate to Recovery option using volume keys and press power button to select and boot into recovery mode.

Step 4: Flash SuperSU file. Select Install option and then browser phone’s storage and select the SuperSU file. Start the process and when flashing is done, go back and reboot the system.

That’s it. you should have root access now.

  1. Very irresponsible of you guys to publish this article without verification. And then you added an “Update” line in between, which is kinda hard to spot. Ever heard of lost credibility?
