What to know

  • The feature is known as “Restyle” and integrates into the in-box Paint app in Windows 11.
  • It is currently available for users in the Canary, Dev and Beta channels of the Windows Insider Program.
  • Hardware and account prerequisites apply: it’s being rolled out initially to “Copilot+” devices (e.g., Snapdragon-powered PCs) and requires a signed-in Microsoft account.
  • The feature works by choosing a style from a preset list, clicking “Generate”, and then adding the resultant image to the canvas, copying or saving it.

Microsoft has introduced “Restyle” as a new AI-powered functionality inside the Paint app. It lets users transform the art style of images directly on the Paint canvas. Users can select from preset artistic styles and generate new stylized versions of their images.

The feature is accessible through the Copilot menu in Paint, enhancing creative possibilities without needing third-party software.

How to try Restyle in Paint

  1. Enroll your PC in the Windows Insider Program (Canary, Dev or Beta channel).
  2. Update Windows 11 and ensure the Paint app is version 11.2509.441.0 (or later) if you see the version number.
  3. Sign in with your Microsoft account in Paint.
  4. Open Paint, then open the “Copilot” menu in the toolbar.
  5. Select “Restyle” from the menu.
  6. Choose a style from the preset list.
  7. Click “Generate”. Wait for the AI to produce a restyled image.
  8. Use “Add to canvas”, “Copy”, or “Save” to use the result in your project.

With the rollout of Restyle, Paint moves further from being a simple drawing tool into a lightweight creative platform. By integrating AI-powered style-transfer inside a familiar app, Microsoft lowers the barrier to a new category of image editing.
