Manufacturers may provide official tools to unlock bootloaders on their devices in order to flash custom ROMs and modify the official firmware, but all is not sometimes rosy after one does unlock the bootloader. Such is the case with the HTC One X+, users of which are reporting that after unlocking its bootloader, the data wipe that automatically occurs is wiping some pre-loaded apps as well.

Here are the apps that people are reporting as getting deleted after a bootloader unlock:

  • 7digital
  • Calculator
  • Dropbox
  • Flashlight
  • Soundhound
  • Teeter

While some of those apps are downloadable from the Play Store, some like the Calculator app aren’t, so XDA Recognized Contributor shubhamchamaria has created a package that users can use to restore their missing apps to their HTC One X+ after unlocking its bootloader.

There are two methods to restore the missing apps: one involves flashing a package from a custom recovery, while the other includes using an automated tool. If you’ve unlocked the bootloader on your HTC One X+, the guide for which we covered → here, and are missing some of those apps, follow either method below to restore them to the phone.

Method I: Restore using ClockworkMod Recovery

  1. Download the missing apps package.
    Download Link | Filename: Missing_Apps_Recovery.zip
  2. Copy the Missing_Apps_Recovery.zip file to the phone. Don’t extract it, copy the file itself.
  3. Install ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery on the phone by following the detailed guide → here. You can skip this step if you already have CWM (or TWRP recovery), installed on your phone.
  4. Turn off the phone and boot into CWM recovery. To do that, boot the phone into the bootloader mode first by powering it on while holding down the Volume Down button till a menu shows up. Then, using the volume buttons, highlight the RECOVERY option, then select it using the power button to reboot into CWM recovery.
In recovery, you can use the volume buttons to scroll and the power button to select options.
  5. Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Scroll to and highlight the Missing_Apps_Recovery.zip file and select it. Confirm installation on the next screen.
  6. After installation completes, go back to the main recovery menu and select the reboot system now option to reboot the phone.
  7. The missing apps will now be available on your phone again.

Method II: Restore using Automated Tool

  1. Download and install HTC Sync software on your computer in order to install the required drivers for the phone. You can skip this step if you have already have HTC Sync or HTC drivers installed on  your PC
  2. Download the automated tool, which also includes the missing apps’ files.
    Download Link
  3. Extract the contents of the downloaded file to a convenient location on your computer.
  4. On the phone, go into the Settings » Developer options menu, toggle the button on top to ON if it is currently OFF, then enable USB Debugging (or ADB Debugging, whichever it is listed as on the phone).
  5. Connect the phone to the computer, and if this is the first time you’ve connected the phone to your computer, wait for the drivers to finish installing.
  6. Open the folder where you extracted the automated tool’s files. Then, double click on the Missing_Apps file to start the restore process.

Those missing apps are now restored on your One X+, via whichever method you chose to follow. Do let us know if you run into any problems.
