Earlier today, WhatsApp released two-step verification option which enables users to add an extra layer of security check for their phone numbers to get registered on WhatsApp.

When enabled, two-step authentication requires a user to add a passcode in addition to OTP to register a phone number while setting up WhatsApp on a device. This is great for securing your WhatsApp number and the data associated with it.

However, if in case you forget your WhatsApp two step verification passcode. You can reset / disable it if you provided your email address to WhatsApp while setting up two-step verification. Check out the instructions below for that.

How to Reset / Disable WhatsApp Two Verification Passcode

  1. When asked for Two-step Verification passcode while setting up WhatsApp. If you don’t know the passcode, select Forgot passcode? link.
  2. You’ll get a pop-up to send email with information on resetting passcode for your WhatsApp two-step verification. Select SEND EMAIL.
  3. Check your Email inbox for a mail with WhatsApp Two-Step Verification Reset as a subject.
  4. Inside the mail, you’ll get a link to disable/remove two-step verification from your WhatsApp number. Open it in your browser.

  6. Two-step verification should be disabled now. Open WhatsApp app, your number should already be verified.
