There’s been huge rants and raves by the Sony fans about the new Xperia Z3 which was unveiled at the IFA 2014 in Berlin. The Xperia Z3 is Sony’s second flagship phone of 2014 and with each new flagship phone, Xperia devices are getting slimmer and lighter. But with respect to the display, not much has changed as Xperia Z3 uses the same 5.2 inch Triluminous Full HD screen as the Xperia Z2. The main difference between the displays on the two phones is that the Xperia Z3 is brighter at 600 nits. This is considerably more than the Xperia Z2’s brightness levels of 460 nits.
We have always loved the Sony’s X-Reality & Bravia Engine which exponentially improved the viewing quality of photos and videos after you take them, giving you clearer, sharper and more natural images. And it just got better with the new software in Xperia Z3.
Thanks to dev nhoc_huhu for sharing a mod for Xperia Z2 owners to get the new X-Reality engine and Super vivid color enhancements from Z3 to their Xperia Z2 devices. The mod greatly improves the picture quality on your Xperia Z2. X-Reality™ for mobile is turned on by default, but you can turn it off if you want to reduce battery consumption. The mod will work on most versions of Xperia Z2 devices.
Below is a step by step procedure on how to install Sony Xperia Z3 X-Reality Engine and Super Vivid Color Enhancements on your Xperia Z2.

- Switch off your Xperia Z2 first
- Switch it back on and the time when you see your phone’s LED notification light turn Pink! (or any other color) — start pressing either the Volume UP or Volume Down key a couple of times to make your phone boot into recovery mode
- Once you’re in recovery mode. Use Volume buttons to navigate Up and Down between options and Power button to select an option in recovery.
- Create a Nandroid Backup from recovery. It’s optional but very important to do, so that in case something goes wrong you can restore to current status easily. For making a Nandroid Backup, go to Backup And Restore » Backup.
