Plex’s Upcoming Marketplace Will Let You Buy and Rent Movies and TV Shows Soon

Media streaming service, Plex has revealed plans to launch a marketplace that will host a catalog of movies and TV shows. Users can access content from this catalog by renting or buying items on their account.

The on-demand video store is expected to release in early 2024 and will accompany the platform’s existing ad-supported content. As per Lowpass, “most studios” have already lined up to host their content on Plex’s store but we’re yet to know what’s about to be included in the library.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about an on-demand store from Plex. The company has been hinting at the intention to launch the service since early 2020 but its launch was impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Subsequent plans remained at a halt for several factors ranging from technical difficulties and studio approvals to a decline in advertising markets.

To complement the on-demand video store, Plex is also reportedly working on enhancing its platform’s user experience with significant changes expected in terms of UI design as well as the addition of new social features.
