Sony has announced that PlayStation Mobile will be launching today on the PlayStation Store, which will allow mobile devices to enjoy PlayStation games. The service starts off in Japan, US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia today, with more countries to follow.
30 new titles from the Adventure, Action, Puzzle, Sports and Simulation genres will be available at launch, though for now only PlayStation-certified devices will get access – which include Sony devices like the Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia S, Xperia ion, Xperia acro S, Xperia TX, Xperia T, Xperia V, Xperia SL, Sony Tablet S, Sony Tablet P and Xperia Tablet S, and the HTC One X, One S, and One V. Access to more devices should be added in the future.
Game developers will be given access to the PS Mobile SDK as part of the PlayStation Mobile Developer Program from November, with a phased roll-out beginning in 11 countries, which will allow developers to publish their games on the PlayStation Store.
Even though I don’t play too many games on my mobile, this is exciting news and I hope that access to PlayStation Mobile is opened up to all Android devices. Android’s gaming scene is rapidly improving, and this will help it gain even more traction. Exciting times!
