It’s been only a couple of days since OnePlus unveiled its next flagship killer, the OnePlus 5 and it’s already a subject of controversy. OnePlus was first alleged to have indulged in altering the benchmark scores of the OnePlus 5.

And now, word has it that its rear camera doesn’t come with 2.0x optical zoom as advertised. A reddit user claims that OnePlus 5 only supports up to 1.33x optical zoom.

To back his claims, he says (based on the EXIF data) that in reality, the OnePlus 5’s primary lens comes with a focal length of 24mm while the secondary (telephoto) lens has a focal length of 32mm which translates only to 1.33x optical zoom.

The reddit user further adds that “the EXIF suggests that OnePlus by default also applies a 1.5x digital zoom (upsampling) to achieve the factor 2. Which is quite misleading too as benchmark cheating.”

In response to these allegations, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei confirmed that the OnePlus 5 doesn’t come with 2x optical lossless zoom. He tweeted that “We’re claiming 2x lossless zoom, not optical.”
