A few days ago, claims emerged online that HMD Global was deliberately delaying the update to Android 9 Pie for Nokia 8 users in order to boost the sales of the newly launched Nokia 8.1.

Of course, the Finnish company was quick to deny these claims and in further response to the same, the company has now opened the Android 9 Pie beta labs for the Nokia 8. As usual, it is Juho Sarvikas to make the announcement via his Twitter account, where he notes that making this beta update available for this handset is meant to help them finalize the commercial release.

When exactly this commercial release will be available remains unclear, but the company had pointed out that a Pie update for the Nokia 8 would be ready by the end of this month, so it makes sense to see them seeking testers to provide helpful feedback ahead of the full rollout. Besides Pie, the update also includes the latest Android security patch for the month of December 2018, as seen in the screengrab below.

Nokia 8 Pie update-1

The Nokia 8 Sirocco hasn’t been mentioned, but since it has the same chipset as the standard model, we expect it to join in the Pie party alongside its counterpart when the stable version begins rolling out.
