It has been discovered that the newly launched Nokia 6 Android smartphone is using source code from CyanogenMod. The custom Android interface that the smartphone is running uses a CM kernel.
Now what does this mean? Well, nothing too significant actually. The CM source code is open and anyone can use it. After the fall of Cyanogen, the code was used by certain CM members to create the new Lineage OS. Nokia is doing something similar and they have added their own touch to it.
Nokia is probably going to use the same interface on all their upcoming Android smartphones. And that’s a good thing. The custom Android OS on the Nokia 6 looks good and is based on Android 7.0 Nougat. Perhaps in the future, Nokia could even have a name for their custom Android version.
The company is expected to reveal more devices at the Mobile World Congress next month. All these are expected to run on Android 7.0 Nougat and one of them will be a flagship, mostly known as the Nokia 8.
