Well, this is certainly disappointing. ASUS is finally bringing the affordable Nexus 7 tablet to the Indian market, though at a not so affordable price starting from Rs. 19,999, which is double the price it sells for in the US.
It is not clear whether the 8GB or 16GB model will be the first option available, though with the 8GB model now discontinued, it is likely that it shall be the 16GB model, or at least I hope it will be. Other specs of the Nexus 7 include a 1.3 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 1GB RAM, 7″ 1280 x 800 pixels LCD display, 1.2 MP front-facing camera with 720p video recording, Wi-Fi, NFC, 4325 mAh battery, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. An update to Android 4.2 is set to roll out from November 13th. As for the 3G-enabled Nexus 7, who knows what pricing ASUS will have in mind, and even whether they are planning to launch it in India in the first place.
At this price, the Nexus 7 goes head to head with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7″, with the latter including 3G connectivity, a microSD slot, and the ability to make calls, though it won’t have the powerful Tegra processor of the Nexus 7, nor the guarantee of future updates.
The Nexus 7 will be available for purchase starting Thursday, November 8.
