Only recently, Google started rolling out the final developer preview for Android 7.1.1 update for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 9 and Pixel C devices. It was expected that Nexus 6 would be receiving this preview release too, but that didn’t happen, and not it looks settled that Nexus 6’s turn to taste 7.1.1 will come with its stable release only.
But that doesn’t mean it’s not being worked upon currently at Google. In fact, we just spotted a Nexus 6 at GFXbench listing that shows the device running Android 7.1. And we’re pretty much able to differentiate between a hoax at bench-marking site, and a genuine. As this one comes with Android Google edition, it is legit Google build — and not some custom ROM, which in the case of CyanogenMod at least, would show CyanogenMod edition above.
We’re expecting Google to release the stable version of Android 7.1.1 in fourth week of December, which is when the release of Nexus 6 7.1.1 update should happen too. And given the listing above, it looks very likely to happen.
In you want the latest of Android OS right away, sure have a gander at our CM14 page, where we have covered the CyanogenMod 14 and other Nougat based ROMs.
The Nexus 6 had received Android 7.0 Nougat update in October 2016. However, Google decided against releasing developer preview of Android 7.1.1 for the device. Though, that should change next month.
