Update: The T-Mobile Galaxy S6 is also seeing the OF8 update, so it’s not limited to S6 Edge only — which would have been rare case, let alone unfair. Because, T-Mobile is saying that this update brings, wait for it, battery improvements! Yeah, go for this update, but let us first confirm that it’s root friendly. Anyway, it’s good to see the OF8 update get official, as we smelled it almost a month ago.
T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge is set to receive a new update to build no. OF8, from the current OF6 version. It’s Android 5.1.1 of course, and there is no official word available from T-Mobile as regards what’s new with OF8 update.
The OF8 update is relatively small at 102.97 MB, and should download and install for you pretty quick. To force the update, you can try tapping on ‘Check for update’ button under Settings > About phone > Updates. Good luck! Credit for this goes to PanchoPlanet, thanks a lot!
In case you are unable to install the OTA update, this may be due to TWRP recovery you might have installed. Plus, this update might require OF6 build currently installed on your device.
You can download the Android 5.1.1 OF6 update here, and install all by yourself. And once you do that, you will have stock recovery replacing the custom recovery if any, and OTA shall install fine. That’s your OTA fail fix!
Tip: Do not update to OF8 if you want root access. At least until it’s confirmed that it doesn’t blocks root exploits in use for OF6.
Do let us warn you over this. The new updates — especially the ones that come a few weeks after last update is rooted — fix exploits currently in use to attain root access on previous builds. It’s very much possible that you may not be able to root your device on OF8.
Once we have confirmation that you can root OF8 update, we will certainly let you know of this.
Do let us know how the new OF8 update is treating you and your Galaxy S6 Edge. Any significant improvements?
