It is no secret that people are expecting to see the successor to the Nexus 7 this year, and according to a report by Reuters, the new version of Google’s best-selling 7-inch tablet will be launched in July.
ASUS will once again have the honor of manufacturing the tablet, though this time the tablet will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor instead of NVIDIA’s Tegra chipset, which Reuters‘ sources mention is “for power reasons.” Also, the new device will sport a higher resolution display with a smaller bezel around it, and if a previous report is to be believed, the resolution may be the full HD (1080p) kind.
That’s all that is known about this next-generation Nexus 7 for now. The next version of Android will no doubt be shown off on this new Nexus 7 at Google I/O in May, similar to last year when the current Nexus 7 was the flag bearer for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. As for price, again, we can expect Google to be aiming for the same low profit pricing like currently available Nexus devices, with the loss in profit recouped through ads and sale of content through Google’s Play Store.
Google I/O is merely a month or so away, so we can expect some more details to crop up in the days leading up to it. It will be rather exciting to see what ASUS and Google are cooking up for their next collaboration, and whether it proves to be another massive hit like the Nexus 7.
Thoughts?
