The Android 7.0 Nougat update is due in a couple of months as per Google’s official statement for the release of Android Nougat in the fall of 2016. However, for non-nexus devices, the Nougat update will take a more time to release.
Thankfully, Motorola is one of the very manufacturers who take Android updates seriously and push out OTAs to their most recently released devices within a month of Google’s official announcement.
While Moto X Style/Pure will get the Android Nougat update before other Moto devices does, the Moto G 4th Gen and the Moto X Play will soon follow-up with the latest of Android.
However, the older generation devices like the original Moto X (1st Gen.), Moto G 1st and 2nd Gen. and Moto E might not get the Android Nougat update officially from Motorola. But of course, third-party custom OSs for Android like CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android and many others will still get Android 7.0 running on your sweet old Moto devices.
We’ve been tracking the pattern of Android updates ever since the first update for Android came out. And from what we could tell, the first devices to get Android updates are the ones maintained by Google (Nexuses). But it’s one of the benefits of using a Motorola device that you get the latest Android update in a matter of few weeks once the Nexus device receive.
The Motorola you know today and its range of devices like Moto X, Moto G and Moto E, they all came into existence under Google’s ownership of Motorola Mobility. And it’s during this time that Motorola emerged to be the fastest Android manufacturer to release latest Android updates to its devices.
However, now that Motorola Mobility is owned by Lenovo, the company has lost its shining infrastructure (to some extent) that was built under the leadership of Google. But here’s hoping that Lenovo would keep what Motorola devices stands for and still provide quicker updates for Android Nougat to Moto X Style / Pure / Play, Moto G 3rd and 4th Gen and to Moto E.
Moto X Style/Pure, Moto X Play and Moto X 2nd Gen. Android Nougat update: expected release date
Moto X Style and X Pure:
Moto X Style and Moto X Pure being the flagship Moto devices of 2015, holds the most ranks to get Android Nougat update. Meaning you’ll get the Nougat update on Moto X Style and Pure within a month of official release by Google, that’s if Motorola stands to its quick updates policy in 2016 as well.
Expected Moto X Style/Pure Nougat update release date: October or November 2016.
Moto X Play:
Coming to Moto X Play, the mid-range device from Moto X family, chances are good that it will receive the Android Nougat update within a couple of weeks from the release of the update to Moto X Style/Pure.
However, being a budget device might hold its horses and get the Nougat update a little delayed, say a couple of months from the official announcement by Google.
Expected Moto X Play Nougat update release date: November or December 2016.
Moto X 2nd Gen.
The final contender in Moto X family of devices to get Android Nougat update is Motorola’s flagship from year 2014 — Moto X 2nd Gen. XT1092. We expect the device to get the Nougat update officially from Motorola but some believe that it not happen. Motorola might not officially release Android Nougat update to Moto X 2nd Gen. because the device has matured out of its guaranteed software update of 18 months from release.
Anyway, the Moto X 2nd Gen. has the hardware required to run Android Nougat update. So chances are good that Motorola will officially release Nougat to Moto X2.
Expected Moto X 2nd Gen. Nougat update release date: January or February 2017.
Moto G 3rd Gen. and Moto G4 Android Nougat update: expected release date
Moto G 3rd Gen.:
The Moto G 3rd Gen. (a.k.a Moto G3) is the mid-range offering of Motorola from yesteryear (2015), and it’ll get the Android Nougat update since the device still has some time left of its guaranteed software updates period of 18 months.
Moto G 3rd Gen. and its Turbo variant Nougat update should arrive officially by the end of year 2016 or early in January 2017. In any case, it’ll most probably go in line with Moto X Play Nougat update.
Expect Moto G 3rd Gen. / Turbo Nougat update release date: December 2016 or January 2017.
Moto G4 and G4 Plus:
As for Moto G4 and G4 Plus, Android Nougat update will be available as soon as Motorola has it ready for release. The Moto G4 is coming out to be one of the hottest smartphones in the budget line in year 2016, so it makes sense for Motorola to keep the device’ market repo good and push out the Nougat update as soon as it could.
We expect Moto G4 and G4 Plus to get Android Nougat update within a month of the official release of the update by Google in September or October 2016.
Expected Moto G4 and G4 Nougat update release date: October or November 2016.
We’ll be sure to update this post as soon as we have an official word from Motorola on the Android Nougat release date for its famous and seemingly compatible Moto X and Moto G range of devices.
Stay tuned..
