Update [October 01, 2016]: A new update is now available for the Moto X 2013 edition, which brings the Android security patches up to the month of August 2016. Looks like Motorola is in the process of updating its all Android sets to August level patch, as we saw a similar update come up a few days ago for the Moto E2, too. We don’t have software version available as of now, but will be sure to bring you that once it becomes public.

The Moto X is a pretty old device, one that was loved by many, many Android users. We won’t be surprised if you are still keeping one near you, sporting wooden back probably, and here is all the info about Android 7.0 Nougat update for Moto X.

Truth be told, the Moto X is so old that it won’t receive the Nougat update. But that’s the official thing, because in Android world, you can still get the update via unofficial channels known as custom ROMs.

As a fact, know that Moto X didn’t even receive Marshmallow officially, but thanks to CyanogenMod 13, it got the Marshmallow taste anyway. Now, our hopes are tied to a repeat of this, which we think will definitely happen.

CyanogenMod 14, or CM14, is a custom ROM, made using the Android 7.0 Nougat code shared by Google under AOSP. A developer can download it, tweak and cook a ROM using it for a given device.

We would bring your CM14 once it becomes available, so be sure to check this page regularly.

Sprint Moto X

Sprint has rolled out an update for its Moto X users. Still. The software version is  version LPA23.12-39.10-2, and runs on Android 5.1. The update is a maintenance release, and brings in monthly security patches of Google till June 2016.

The update is not a major one by any means, but that it has arrived around 4 years after the device was released, says itself that Sprint cares, and that’s cool to know.
