CyanogeMod 14.1 ROM based on Android 7.1 Nougat is out for the Moto E (2014). Back in 2014 the launch of the original Moto E created a stir in budget markets like India. The smartphone sold like hot cakes. Even though the device came with 4GB of built in storage and the camera was plain bad, people still bought the smartphone. This was mainly due to the fact that Motorola was advertising the pure stock Android experience that came with their devices.
Neverthless the 4GB limitation meant that the user would have to carefully choose what apps needed to be installed on the phone. While the Moto E was soak testing for Lollipop, CyanogenMod released CM 12.1 for the smartphone. This provided performance improvements and extra functionality. And now we’re seeing the latest iteration of CyanogenMod (14.1) on the Moto E (2014).
The Moto E never managed to get the official Marshamallow update, but thanks to the devs at CyanogenMod we can even have a go at Nougat now. The Moto E CM14.1 nightly builds have a few bugs/issues, but there’s nothing too serious to stop you from using the ROM as your daily driver.
