Although Android 5.0 lollipop is all sweet and buttery with its new colors and smooth animations, it’s unpleasant as well in certain areas. The lollipop release removes the default Android Gallery that has always been there since the inception of Android, and instead the default photo viewer you now have on your Android device is the “Photos” app that’s heavily integrated to Google+ and its features.

This change only affects the Nexus users. If you’re on HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony, Motorola or any other device manufacturer, you’ll probably have the Gallery even after updating to Lollipop since most manufacturers include there own custom photo Gallery which isn’t part of stock Android by Google.

As for the Nexus users, this change to Photos app from Gallery isn’t all that bad. The Photos app by Google is far more advanced than the version of stock Gallery that we’ve been using since Jelly Bean days of Android. The inbuilt photo editor of Photos app has many cool options and the app also has the awesome Auto Enhance feature from Google+. And if that wasn’t enough, you also get a brilliant Movie, Motion and Collage creator with the Photos app.

However, if a simple photo viewer is all you want, here are a few apps you might find interesting:

► QuickPic: QuickPic app has long been the most favorite third-party photo viewer among Android users and is actively developed with new features from time to time. This is the best replacement for the missing Gallery on Android 5.0 lollipop.

► Piktures – Photo Album Gallery: Now that you have to move to a new Gallery, why not try something fancy and attractive? The Piktures app is a well designed gallery app with some useful and cool features along with great design.

► Gallery KitKat: Nexus Gallery: Yes, it’s the same Gallery that went missing from your device with the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. You just install this and get the good ol’ gallery back on your device.

► Cyanogen Gallery: This is another cool alternative that comes from the developers of the famous CyanogenMod ROM. However, the app can be slow at loading pictures sometimes, give it a whirl though.

There are many more apps available on Play store that can prove to be a good replacement of the Gallery app missing on your Lollipop running device. Search for “Photo viewer” or “Gallery” on the Play store.
