What to know

  • Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27744 featuring an upgraded Prism emulator for Arm PCs.
  • The new emulator supports additional CPU extensions like AVX, AVX2, BMI, FMA, and F16C.
  • This update will allow more x64 apps and games, such as Adobe Premiere Pro 2025 and gaming titles, to run on Windows Arm devices.

Microsoft has taken a giant leap forward in bridging the compatibility gap between traditional x86 applications and Windows on Arm devices by introducing a significant upgrade to its Prism emulator.

The company has rolled out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27744 to the Canary Channel which introduced the enhanced Prism emulator which now supports crucial CPU extensions that have become industry standards in modern computing.

This breakthrough means that Windows devices equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus processors can now run a broader range of legacy applications and gaming titles that previously wouldn’t work on Arm PCs.

You’ll now be able to run demanding applications like Adobe Premiere Pro 2025 on your Arm device, thanks to this expanded support. The update specifically targets 64-bit x86 applications, though 32-bit apps and those using 32-bit helpers for CPU feature detection won’t benefit from these improvements yet.

Along with the emulator upgrade, Microsoft has introduced a new on-screen gamepad keyboard feature. This addition will enhance the user experience for those using gaming handhelds or touchscreen devices, making navigation and typing more convenient when a physical keyboard isn’t available.

The update also brings several quality-of-life improvements, including the ability to detach hard disks from the Settings app and various Task Manager enhancements. Microsoft has also addressed multiple bug fixes, ensuring a more stable experience for Windows on Arm users.
