Almost a month back, Microsoft launched the preview of its Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint for the Android smartphones. Now, the firm announced the general availability of these applications via the Google Play Store.
Earlier, it was possible to use the Microsoft Office apps such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint only on Android tablets, but now even the smartphones that run on Android 4.4 KitKat or above are compatible to these applications.
Interestingly, Word, Excel and PowerPoint Office apps are free to download on Android devices and they have in-app purchases. These in-app purchases are aimed at those users who need advanced Microsoft Office features on their device.
Microsoft touted that during the preview period of the Office apps for Android devices, the applications were installed on 1,900 Android smartphones in 83 countries. As per the feedback from the users, these applications have been improved and modified before their launch for the public.
