Microsoft launches Path Guide app for indoor paths

Microsoft has come up with a really cool app that does what the name says – Path Guide. It is a new navigation service that acts as a guide for indoor paths. There are no maps in the app. It uses walking pattern collected by an earlier traveler to guide other users to the destination.

Confused? Don’t be. Path Guide works on trails. A user first has to create a trail for a given indoor walk from a starting point to end point and they can then share this trail with others. Path Guide app will then guide the new users in real time and help them in tracing their path.

Based on geomagnetism, Path Guide can be used in many real life scenarios. For instance, when you park a car, you can record the path from the parking spot to the mall entrance. Later when you leave the mall, you can retrace the path with the help of Path Guide app to find your car. Similarly, shop owners can record paths for their shops from the entrance of the mall. Users can then trace this path on Path Guide app.

In a nutshell, Path Guide is Google Maps for indoor paths. It will tell you the exact number of steps, levels, and turns in a building or in your path that you are supposed to take to reach your destination.
