While manufacturers like Samsung and Apple are (in)famous for launching a successor of their high-end flagship smartphone every year, there’s a not too well-known Chinese manufacturer that has been doing the same in its home country for the last couple of years. I’m talking about Meizu of course, whose MX series of smartphones has been quite successful in China, thanks to high-end specs combined with affordable prices.
Meizu is now working on the MX3 as a followup to the MX2 launched last year, and apparently Meizu will be using Samsung’s new octa-core Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset to power the device, the same one that Samsung is using on the Galaxy S4. This isn’t surprising news, since both the Meizu MX and MX2 were powered by the same Exynos chipsets that were in Samsung’s Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3, and it’s fitting that Meizu is yet again in talks with the Korean manufacturer for its latest flagship.
The Meizu MX3 is also expected to sport a 5.1″ display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200, and thanks to a narrower bezel, it should be relatively easy to handle the MX3 despite the 5-inch screen. No other specs are known as of yet, other than that another Smart Bar compatible app is coming, along with Weibo integration and a new music service, though we can expect 2GB of RAM and Android 4.2 to be included as well.
With a device like the Meizu MX3, we should see some more info leak out as days go by. And we can also hope that this time, Meizu decides to launch the MX3 outside China as well, so we can all taste the power of the Exynos Octa without shelling out a premium for the Galaxy S4.
