How to make a pie chart quiz on Google Forms [3 methods]

If you’ve got a Google Form you want to create a pie chart from, you’ll need to rely on Google Sheets to extract the data from Forms and use this data to compile the pie chart. 

Method 1: Using Google Sheets on the web

  1. Open the Google Forms website and select the form that you want to make a chart for.
  2. When the form is open, click on the Responses tab at the top to display the data from the responses that you have received from people.
  3. Click on the Google Sheets icon next to the 3-dots icon at the top. This will open the Forms data inside a spreadsheet on Google Sheets.
  4. Once in Google Sheets, select a column by clicking on an empty cell with the mouse and scrolling upwards till you reach the cell with the question.
  5. Now click on the Insert tab from the toolbar at the top.
  6. When the Insert menu appears, select Chart to generate a chart.
  7. Don’t worry if you don’t get a pie chart here, we can pick our charts. In the chart editor which is right next to the chart, click on the drop-down arrow under “Chart type” to pick from different charts. 
  8. Scroll down to the Pie section and pick a pie chart. The chart on your screen will now be converted to a pie chart.
  9. If you want to customize the chart to your liking. You can do that by clicking on the Customize tab inside the Chart Editor sidebar on the right.

Chart Style

Chart style lets you customize the looks of the chart.

  • Background Colour – It lets you change the background Colour of the chart. You can either make it transparent by choosing none or give it a Colour as per your liking.
  • Font – It lets you choose a single font for all the numbers and letters displayed anywhere on the chart.
  • Chart Border Colour – It lets you give a border Colour to the chart. The default is mostly Dark Grey 2, but you can pick any Colour. Choosing none gives the graph a transparent border.
  • Maximize – It will increase the size of the chart to fit the area. Turning it on will maximize the chart, and turning it off returns it to the default size. When the chart is maximized, the titles for data might be placed in one corner.
  • 3D – When turned on, it will turn a 2D chart into a 3D one and when turned off, it will change the 3D chart into a 2D one.
Pie Chart

Here you will be able to customize how the Pie looks.

  • Doughnut Hole – Punches a hole in the middle of the Pie, which can be kept between 25 to 75 percent of the Pie’s size.
  • Border Colour – Lets you add a Colour to the border of the Pie.
  • Slice Label – You can add the Label to the different slices indicating the respective labels.

  • Distance from Centre – It will allow you to separate respective slides from the center. It can be used to put focus on a single slice.
Chart and Axis titles

It allows you to change the title of the chart.

  • Chart Title/Chart Subtitle – This lets you pick between the Chart Title and Chart Subtitle so that you can tweak them individually.
  • Title Text – Lets you add or edit the text of the title.
  • Title Font – This allows you to pick from many different fonts for the title.
  • Title Font Size – You can change the size of the title to make it big or small.
  • Title Format – Add a Bold or Italic format to the title.
  • Title text Color – Lets you change the Color of the text.
Legend

The Legend menu lets you customize the look of the titles which indicate portions of the pie.

Method 2: Using the Google Sheets app on Android

How to transfer a pie chart from Google Forms to MS Word

If you wish to move a chart you created from Google Forms to Microsoft Word, then you can do it directly using the Google Sheets spreadsheet you created for making the pie chart above. There are two ways to transfer pie charts to MS Word:

Method 1: Using the Download option

  1. Once your pie chart is ready on Google Sheets, click on the 3-dots at the top right corner.
  2. Now click on the Download option to show the available formats.
  3. Select PNG Image (.png) to download the chart in .png format with a white background. The chart will now be downloaded to your default downloads folder.
  4. Now, launch the Microsoft Word program on your computer and open the file you want to add the pie chart to. When the document loads up, click on the Insert tab from the toolbar at the top.
  5. Now click on the Pictures option to be able to insert a picture.
  6. A pop-up menu will show up, select the image from your default download location, and click on Insert to drop it in the MS Word file.
