LG Uplus, a carrier in Korea owned by LG Corporation, has agreed to share its IoT tech with Verizon Wireless in USA. This is what LG Uplus’s Vice Chairman and CEO, Kwon Young-soo, had to say:

Our first meeting with Verizon was as satisfying as we had expected, even if no specific progress has been made about how we will extend our home IoT presence into the North American market.

He further revealed that LG and Samsung are currently leading the global industry in terms of IoT technology. Moreover, LG is looking to add good deal of business through and based on IoT, using their expertise in IoT tech such as voice recognition, for which the they want to form group-wide collaborations within the sector.

He further noted that their partnership with Verizon will help them on global scale, as the USA based carrier has good expertise with industrial IoT and big data management solutions.

The next generation of IoT devices are expected to run over upcoming 5G networking technology and LG is planning ahead by partnering with Verizon in this sector. IoT devices are expected to play a major role on the growth of Artificial Intelligence technology which will also be facilitated by Big Data tech, as all of these are based on 5G.

With this move, LG looks to tighten its grip on top spot in Korea as the leader in IoT, where is currently enjoys 75% market share. The company will also have a hand in driving smart automotive tech into Korea. Aside from the IoT collaboration with Verizon, LG has brought a lot of new tech to the table at this years ongoing International CES.
