The LG Optimus G has slowly but surely been making its way to various markets since January, and it has now been launched in India at a price of INR 30,990. It is available on online retailer Saholic with a delivery guaranteed in 5 business days, while Flipkart lists it as coming soon.
The Optimus G comes with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, like the version headed to Europe this month. The device is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor and 2GB RAM, and sports a beautiful 4.7-inch True HD IPS+ display of 720p resolution on the front.
Indian customers luckily also get the 13 megapixel camera variant of the device, which make it the only flagship device currently available in the country to sport a larger-than-8 megapixel camera (not counting yesteryear devices like the Xperia S). Other specs include a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 32GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, HSPA 42mbps, NFC, and a 2,100 mAh battery.
If you can look past the poor software update history of LG, the Optimus G is quite a stunning device for the asking price. When you compare it to the HTC Butterfly, which only sports a larger 5-inch screen with 1080p resolution but is priced upwards of Rs. 45,000, the Optimus G becomes the clear-cut choice for those in the market for a high-end flagship Android smartphone.
Of course, the Galaxy S3 at Rs. 28,990 with Samsung’s aggressive marketing and software support may have a few things to say to the Optimus G, but kudos to LG for hitting that sweet spot with pricing.
