If LG’s bet for the budget / entry level phone market last year was LG Optimus One — launched almost on every carrier — this year it’s gonna be LG Gelato; the very phone we’re calling Optimus Net till now, while completely unable to figure out what ‘Net’ meant actually. Looks like LG were facing a similar dilemma and thus, have changed the name altogether, even dropping the Optimus tag and its popularity in the process.
But how do we came to know about it now, you may ask. Well, this phone just cleared the DLNA testing and it’s certification (the pic above) has two important bits of info: One, that it’s code is LG P690 which we’ve known it ever since it got leaked, and Second, the pic mentions the product name as Gelato which effectively makes us sure that P690 is the LG Gelato.
Well, let’s hope that AT&T rumored Optimus net variant — not the LG Gelato variant — LG P690g also gets itself identified, though we’d be equally happy if its European moniker Gelato is taken to AT&T version too.
In case you nee a reminder, the Optimus Gelato’s spec sheet is here:
- 800 MHz processor from Qualcomm
- Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
- 3.2 inch HVGA screen with resolution of 320 x 480
- 512 MB RAM
- WiFi, 3G, GPS, etc.
It’s a good budget phone no doubt and features some of the specs of the last year’s high-end phones. If you’re looking for a budget phone and it’s available too in your country or at your carrier, we recommend you buy this one. Unless, Samsung’s bigger 3.5 inch screen phone, Samsung Admire is available too, in which case we would be inclined towards Samsung’s offering since it’s got extra .3 screen real estate which would be foolish to ignore, whoever small it may seem.
