Without a doubt, LG G6 is a pretty good device, one that gets you almost bezel-free display with great camera and all. But the geekier among us want something more, and that is root access, something which is attainable — mostly! — when you can unlock the device.

It’s good day then for LG G6 users then, that LG is now officially allowing you to unlock bootloader of the device. No more tinkering around with tricky stuff to get your G6 unlocked. Before you begin to unlock your device, make sure that your model number is H870, as unlocking is only available on the this European variant as of now.

Upon unlocking the bootloader, you can go on to install TWRP recovery on your LG G6, and then use TWRP to flash the SuperSU package to gain root access. using TWRP, you can also install custom ROMs, which is also one another big reason besides root access that people unlock their device.

Coming to custom ROMs, this is a pretty early stage so  custom ROM development may have only begun recently. But once they are available, whether its LineageOS, Resurrection Remix, etc. these ROMs will open up a whole new world of possibilities.

The G6 even comes with special hardware like the HDR10 display and devs even could make use of the extra screen real estate in intuitive ways that LG couldn’t show us before.
