They said mid-April, and mid-April it is! Sony initially announced that they would be updating the Xperia Ray, Arc S, and the neo V to Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 at the end of March, but when the end of March actually came closer, Sony announced that the update had been delayed to mid-April. And this time, Sony has kept their word, as the ICS update for the above mentioned devices has started rolling out officially in Nordic countries like Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Norway, with updates in other parts of the world soon to follow over the next 4-6 weeks.

However, as Sony previously announced on their blog, the update will not be available as an over the air (OTA) update on the phone, but only through Sony’s PC Companion software on Windows and Mac. Ice Cream Sandwich brings some major changes over Gingerbread, so Sony does not want to automatically update users’ phones with it, instead giving them a choice to do it through the PC companion if they choose to do so.

The Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman are still on target for an end of May/early July update, which we hope doesn’t get delayed specially as that’s a big list of devices to update.

So, excited about finally getting Ice Cream Sandwich on your Xperia? Or, have you already got it on your phone? Either way, do let us know your thoughts on it, in the comments below.
