We’ve known for a while that Huawei will at some point update the Honor 8 Lite to Android 8.0 Oreo, but we just didn’t know when.
A while back, Huawei surprised many by announcing the Honor 6X Oreo update and today, there’s more to smile about as the company has now opened Oreo doors for the Honor 8 Lite. Like the 6X, those using the Honor 8 Lite can now join the beta testing program that will grant them access to the latest EMUI 8.0.
Being a beta program, not all Honor 8 Lite users will be able to join the party, at least for now (only 20,000 slots are up for grabs). However, to get Oreo on your handset, here’s what you need to do right now:
- Ensure the installed Honor service app is the latest version
- Launch the app and tap on the services tab
- Tap on Upgrade application and hit Apply
After your application is accepted, Huawei will send a notification to your Honor 8 Lite, granting you access to the EMUI 8.0 download. With beta software, you are getting an unfinished product that could cause your phone to behave unusually, so take this step with caution.
Also, there are specific models of the Honor 8 Lite that are eligible for this Oreo beta. These are model numbers PRA-AL00 (3/32GB and 4/64GB), PRA-AL00X (4/32GB and 4/64GB), and PRA-TL10 (4/32GB and 4/64GB).
It’s worth noting that the Honor 8 Lite has several names in other markets. The phone is also sold as Huawei P8 Lite (2017), P9 Lite (2017), Huawei GR3 (2017) or Huawei Nova Lite. In short, all of these variants should receive Android 8.0 Oreo in the coming weeks.
