Honor 8A to release soon, certified by Wi-Fi Alliance

Huawei Honor 8A

A week ago, an Honor device codenamed JAT-AL00, JAT-TL00 and JAT-L29 showed up on TENAA and Russia’s EEC and the following day, images of the same phone appeared on the former platform, hinting at a possible Huawei Honor 8A.

Now, the same device has just received Wi-Fi Alliance clearance carrying model number JAT-LX1 and with Android 9.0 Pie running the show, implying that the launch date isn’t too far away. The WFA listing doesn’t say much about the specs, but we already have these details thanks to TENAA, as seen below.

Honor 8A specs

  • 6.08-inch HD+ (720×1560) LCD display
  • Octa-core 2.2GHz processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB or 64GB expandable storage
  • 13MP main camera
  • 8MP front camera
  • 3000mAh battery
  • Android 9.0 Pie with EMUI 9.0

The Honor 8A, as already pointed out, is a budget phone and the specs above say it all. We are looking at a slightly bigger display screen compared to the Honor 7A and although we don’t have a name for the processor, we know that it’s an octa-core chipset clocked at a speed of 2.2GHz.

According to TENAA, the Honor 8A will ship with a single RAM option of 3GB, but the buyers will be able to choose from two storage options of 32GB and 64GB, both of which can be expanded via a microSD card slot.

In terms of photography, the Honor 8A will ship with a 13MP shooter on the back and an 8MP unit for selfies and keeping it going will be a 3000mAh battery unit. As for the software, you get Android 9 Pie out of the box with EMUI 9.0 on top.

Looking at the TENAA images, it’s clear the Honor 8A doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner, which is a little strange considering the Honor 7A has one. Alternatively, Huawei may turn to face unlock for authentication purposes, which is still great.

Honor 8A price and availability

The Honor 7A was released in April 2018, which makes sense that details of the Honor 8A are popping up at this point in time. Of course, the Honor 8A will be launched in China first before going global, although we still don’t know when exactly this will go down.

As for the pricing, the Honor 8A is a weaker variant of the Honor 8, which means we can expect a figure in the regions of $200 or even cheaper, depending on the variant you get.
