The rumour mills are spinning again, as they always do before a big event! This time, before the MWC or Mobile World Congress 2012 takes off towards the end of February, the air is already abuzz with news that HTC is likely to launch a mid-range Android device, codenamed HTC Primo. (Btw, the pic above is a rendering, and not to be mistaken as an actual image of the device).
The folks over at Stuff TV, it seems have somehow managed to acquire the hardware specs for this new kid who is yet to come on to the block, from an inside source. Key features include:
- 9 mm thick (that’s kinda very thin for HTC devices specially)
- 3.7″ capacitive Touchscreen
- Super Amoled display with Gorilla Glass
- Dual Core 1GHz Qualcomm processor
- 512 MB RAM
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Sense 4.0
- 5 MP cam capable of 720p video recording
- Beats Audio Technology
As you can see above, if the speculation is to be believed, this seems to be a compact, but full-featured device, which will run Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. At that size, it would make it the smallest dual-core device on the market. Although, some more RAM would have been a nice touch (anything less than 1GB sounds lame, truthfully), to go along with the dual-core processor powered Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
Imaging specs seem standard; Beats Audio is a good value addition; What could really make this device a seller is the 9 mm thickness (which is a mere 0.5 mm more than the Galaxy S2) and the Super Amoled Display with Gorilla Glass.
Definitely targeted towards the audience who are willing to sacrifice that extra power for compactness!! On the pricing side, there is no definite or approximate information available at the moment. However, we believed that it will fall within the $350-$400 range, but as has been the case with most devices lately, the price and availability may vary across geographies.
What do you think about the HTC Primo? Is the RAM too little — even Incredible S had cool 768MB of RAM? Could HTC have packed in a better camera? If you want to share your thoughts and comments with us, OR if you hear anything more about this, do let us know in comments below.
