HTC which launched the Desire 820 last October along with the 820q may be getting ready to release another variant of the device in India very soon. According to Mahesh Telecom — an established retailer based in Mumbai — the Desire 820s will be available in India starting Thursday and will feature an octa-core SoC. This is the first time that this version of device has made it to the news after being announced last November for China.
According to the said retailer, the dual sim device also supports a “dual 4G” mode which if true will allow the device to run any of 3G+3G, 4G+3G or 3G+4G configurations, however the claim is a little dubious since HTC’s website has put the device as being able to connect only a single sim to 3G/4G network at a time while the other sim avails 2G services.
The device runs a 64-bit 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6752 processor instead of the standard 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC sported by the 820 — which is definitely an improvement in terms of processing power — and possesses a Mali T760 GPU coupled with 2 GB of RAM. Other than the difference in the processors, the device is quite similar to the Desire 820, coming with a 13/8 MP rear/front camera combination along with a 5.5 inch (720×1280 pixels) display. The whole package runs on Android 4.4 KitKat.
As already mentioned, the device comes with 4G LTE support with other connectivity options including Wi-Fi, FM radio, Bluetooth, GPRS/ EDGE, GPS/ A-GPS and 3G. For storage, there is an ample 16 GB internal memory along with external SD card support upto 128 GB.
While the Desire 820 was priced in the neighborhood of 23k and the 820q at around 20k, the 820s is expected to launch with a price tag of Rs. 24,990 — which is not bad, taking every feature into account.
