When you talk about Android tablets, the name of HTC doesn’t usually cross anyone’s mind, with two tablets – Flyer and Jetstream – failing to make a mark (or even remaining in most people’s memories for that matter). But rumor has it that HTC is working on a successor to the Flyer to go head-to-head with the Nexus 7 and the upcoming Kindle Fire.

Named the Flyer 2, the 7-inch tablet will apparently feature a thin 7.1mm anodized aluminum body (similar to the HTC One S), will be powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, and will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. Similar to the Nexus 7, the Flyer 2 will feature only a 1 megapixel front camera. Also, the 7-inch display will sport a resolution 1280×768 pixels for a 213.25 ppi pixel density.

But to compete with the Nexus 7 or the Amazon Kindle, price is the main factor, and thankfully rumor suggests HTC will be pricing the Flyer 2 to compete with the two most affordable tablets in the Android market, which would be another great step towards improving the meager state of the Android tablet ecosystem.
