HTC has officially launched the Desire 650 in Taiwan today. The latest member of the Desire series, the 650 doesn’t have a price tag yet, but looking at the specs, it looks to be targeting buyers in mid-range mobile phones section.

The Desire 650 sports a casual and catchy design with a half textured back for better grip. That looks good to us, BTW. The device houses a 5-inch HD display (with Gorilla Glass protection, no less), and is powered by a unspecified Quad-core chip from Qualcomm and 2GB of RAM. It comes with built in 16GB of storage and offers expandable storage up to 2TB.

As expected, the Desire 650 comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, unlike HTC 10 Evo, which launched 7.0 pre-installed, but it should get an update to Nougat by the end of Q1 2017.

At the moment, the HTC 10 Nougat update is expected to arrive by this month’s end, or early December at the most. Head over here to check out a few screenshots of the HTC 10 running Nougat. Last year’s flagship, the One M9 is also expected to be updated to Nougat soon.

The HTC Desire 650 also houses the general array of sensors found in mid-range handsets with the exclusion of a magnetometer and gyroscope. The main shooter at the back is 13MP BSI sensor (for better low light snaps) and the front camera has a resolution of 5MP.

The smartphone also boasts of Hi-Res HD audio quality. All of this runs on a sub-par 2200mAh battery, considering the fact that other OEMs are shipping phones with bigger juice packs in this price range.
