What to know

  • ChatGPT has a new feature called Tasks that lets you schedule actions and reminders within ChatGPT. Currently in beta and available for Plus, Team, and Pro users on the web.
  • Tasks can be set up as one-time or recurring reminders, which gives ChatGPT a crucial digital assistant-like (and agentic) capability.
  • Make sure to select GPT-4o with scheduled tasks from the model picker and give ChatGPT the details of the task, including the task for its execution.
  • Once scheduled, you can view and edit the tasks as you like from the 'Tasks' section in the profile menu section.

OpenAI has unveiled a new Tasks feature that lets you instruct ChatGPT to automatically run tasks and perform certain actions at a scheduled time. Some of the things you can do with Tasks includes setting reminders for future events, one-time and recurring alerts and updates. Here's everything you need to know about using ChatGPT Tasks.

How to use ChatGPT Tasks

ChatGPT's Tasks feature is currently in beta and available only to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro users on the web. Here's how to use it:

Step 1: Open chatgpt.com.

Step 2: From the model picker at the top, select GPT-4o with scheduled tasks.

Step 3: Now prompt ChatGPT and tell it the tasks that you need to schedule as well the time for its execution.

You can keep up to 10 active scheduled tasks at a time.

Note: Based on the details of your chat, ChatGPT will also suggest scheduling tasks for the future. You can accept or deny them as you wish.

How to edit Tasks in ChatGPT

Step 1: Once scheduled, all your tasks will be available within the chat as well as via the Tasks section in the profile menu.

Step 2: Here, you can edit the tasks as you like. Click on the pencil icon next to a task to start editing it.

Step 3: You can change the Name of the task, the Instructions, the Schedule, as well as Notifications.

Step 4: Click Save to save the task.

In essence, ChatGPT Tasks open up a new agentic capability that lets ChatGPT serve as a useful assistant that can work automatically on things you ask it to do in the future, such as get daily news updates, weather reports, and remind you about upcoming events like flights, buying movie tickets, or simply to drink water every now and then.

While the Tasks feature is currently available on ChatGPT's web interface only, its assistant-like capability will be unleashed only when Tasks comes to the ChatGPT app. So stay tuned for that!
